Shannon Beador to Divorce Husband David After 17 Years of Marriage

RHOC star Shannon Beador has finally separated from her husband David after 17 years of marriage. The couple has three daughters together, Sophie, 15, and twins Stella and Adeline, 12.

The Beadors split over a month go and Shannon told her co-stars Friday while filming the season 12 reunion.

“It’s heartbreaking for me and my daughters that this is the road that had to be taken but it’s the only way,” Shannon said. “I felt alone in my marriage. You can do what you can to keep your family together, but you have to have willing parties. You need two people to make a marriage work, and that just wasn’t happening in our relationship.”

We’ve watched Shannon’s dysfunctional marriage play out on the show. In season 10, she revealed that David was unfaithful. The couple then spent time repairing their marriage through therapy.

Things seemed to get better for the couple, especially when David surprised Shannon with a vow renewal ceremony at the Inn at Rancho Santa Fe, where they originally got married and where David had first proposed to Shannon on her birthday. But in the past year, David began getting distant, often choosing to hit the gym rather than spend time with Shannon and the kids.

Shannon had also been battling a 40lb weight gain, which occurred over a year of emotional stress-eating in the wake of false allegations made by Vicki Gunvalson last season that David “beat the sh*t” out of Shannon. Beador said on the show that the weight “disgusted” David and created a wedge in her marriage.

Still, Shannon was “crushed” about the news of their separation. “This is not the path that I thought that I would be taking,” Shannon told PEOPLE. “To come from the highest of the highs last year to go to such a low so quickly? At the beginning when it starts to crumble, you think, ‘This is just a phase. It’ll get better.’ But it never did.”

The decision came after Shannon watched this season of RHOC back and thought about her daughters and how they would be affected by her choices.

“As a mother, I want to be a good role model for my daughters,” Shannon explained. “Three years ago I was proud of what I showed them, because I fought for keeping my family together after infidelity. As the last year went by, it’s been extremely difficult and painful to watch the show, because clearly I was in denial about what was going on in my marriage. I was taking things out on other people instead of at home. As a mother you keep thinking about your daughters and you have to say, ‘This is an unhealthy environment.’ Not only is it unhealthy for me, but it’s unhealthy for my girls, too. They deserve a happy and joyful home, and I am providing that for them now.”

Shannon and David have been co-parenting since their split, joining together for a weekly dinner to make the transition easier for them.

“We are doing our best to be amicable for our children,” Shannon said, adding that her daughters are taking the news as best as they can. “That’s our primary concern, to act in the best interest of our daughters.”

As for life after David, Shannon said she’s hopeful. “I’m a strong person,” Shannon said. “At this point it’s scary, when you’re 53 years old, to be out there on your own. But I intend to show myself and my daughters that it can be done. I’m ready to get the old Shannon back, that’s for sure.”

My name is Nicki. I am 32 years-old and married to my best friend. I was previously in business for over 12 years, but I’ve always had a great passion for web and graphic design. Another one of my passions, of course, is to escape into the world of TV, which is where this journey began. My goal in starting AllThingsRH.com was to give fans, like myself, a place to catch up on all the latest news and gossip about The Real Housewives. I wanted to create a place where viewers could interact with each other, share their opinions, and get straight-forward and unbiased information about what’s going on. I am proud of the diversity this site has to offer.

  • timdun

Sad that a marriage ends but not a shock.

  • Sunshine

Wow wow wow. I am hoping they can all be much happier away from the toxic mess they’ve been living in. God bless those children.
I never truly believed this day would come. Sad to say, I am relieved.

  • KelliAnn

Good for them. Divorce is never easy but it’s always better for kids to see happy parents, even if not together.

  • Pat Donahue

I’m sorry for u Shannon & your family. Stay strong.

  • Daisy

It’s for the best but I’m speechless. Good luck to you Shannon. Team Shannon

    • Minx

      Team, Shannon!
      Onward & Upward!

  • Pierre

I am so proud of Shannon and extremely relieved. I know I don’t know her personally but inevitably you do connect with certain reality TV characters and she is definitely one I have a lot of empathy and compassion towards. I know it won’t be easy for her and her daughters, so I don’t wish to sound insensitive, but I am 100% sure that this is the best move for all parties concerned. Shannon is a great mum, wife and person imo. But being in this unhealthy relationship is impinging on her ability to be her best self. I hope we can get the old (new) Shannon back like she says. It would be great to see that on the show if possible but completely understandable if not. Either way, she is setting a great example to her kids and other women out there who might be experiencing the same/similar thing and I wish her the absolute best and all the possible success and happiness as she deserves 🙂

    • Sunshine

      Very well said. Totally agree.

      • Pierre

        Thank you 🙂

  • TrumpsRolls

  • Heather

Very sad. Its heartbreaking to see a family fall apart but Shannon deserves better. I hope they all find happiness.

    • Rain

She will DEFINITELY do better because he’s simply the WORST

      • Heather

Very true Rain! Shannon deserves better than an adulterer who only likes her if she’s thin. Horrible. I hope the daughters dont get eating disorders! xoxo

        • Rain

He is mean, cold and a man whore. I seriously doubt that he only had the one affair . Xoxo

          • Heather

I wondered if he was having another one since he was so distant. I hope she recovers quickly. Its so painful. Been through it.

  • Frank Van Der Heijden

I am happy for David, now he can eat steaks, fried chicken, pizza, burgers, fries…man food…no more boiled quinoa, nor glutten-free tea nor organic mineral water

  • Benny

Cannot say that I am surprised, however I am surprised that they toughed it out this long. Had I been David I would have left that screeching, whining, crazy Shannon long ago.

  • JerseyGirl

I am SO glad Shannon finally made this move. It’s much needed. Wishing her the best.

  • Aunt Bee

    This is so sad

    • Heather

It is sad Aunt Bee. Its a shame her husband wouldnt lift a finger to save his family. Shannon did all the work.

  • Starr

Wishing them both the very best. Maybe this seperation will be the best thing for them.
They look really happy in the photos.

  • Larry

      • Daisy

Woke up to a cold front , so very happy Saturday

  • Daisy

I agree with Rain ,lovely message

  • Daisy

I have a few home improvement projects going on. Unfortunately I can’t be lazy this weekend . … what did I get myself into

  • Heather

I hope Lydia is ashamed of her horrible attacks on Shannon. She has attacked her and upset her since day one. As a Christian also, if I ever abused a person going through hell as Shannon is, I would die of remorse. Christians should help people who are suffering!!

  • Heather

& No wonder Shannon gained weight. Many people eat to comfort themselves when they are going through terrible times. I hope she loses her weight, feels great about herself and goes on to find love again with someone deserving of her kind heart. She is a beautiful lady.
(I was so happy for them last year…This is sad)

    • Rain

I think she will absolutely flourish ! He was an emotional parasite
Always love your posts Heather xox

      • Heather

You are sweet. 🙂 xoxo I also am praying Shannon flourishes. Glad she has the show for income and to keep busy.

    I know, as I was inviting people I was thinking;

  • Heather

    ROTFLMAO!!!

  • Daisy

Thanks for the encouragement but I’m starting to wonder

  • tickityboo

you are spot on well written

  • Cin

    takes two

  • Michelle

I’m sure this wasn’t an easy decision for her and it took a lot of soul searching to get there. I am a strong believer in working at it and work at it some more when it comes to troubled marriages but there is a limit and it takes a lot of strength to say no more. What’s best for the family doesn’t always mean sticking with what you have. Team Shannon!

  • missroxmiss

Good for Shannon for leaving ,she does need to work on herself..she did emasculate her husband on national tv,,,,just from experience working in bars for many years people who talk very loud all the time are drinkers everyday drinkers .just sayin, .or death literally can not hear..living with an abusive man can make a woman harsh also.the confusion all the time will drive a person mental. Lydiot is being petty needs to back off this girl and she just kept poking the bear .like her an Vilicky is tryin to cause Shannon to snap.hope it backfires and the OC gets a cast change .

  • Nathan Hastings

She’s going to try and ruin David and control when/if he gets to see the kids.
