I recently had the opportunity to interview Kathy Wakile from RHONJ! The New Jersey Housewives are in the middle of filming Season 5, and Kathy took the time to answer some of my questions! She tells me the reservations she had before joining the RHONJ cast, we talk about the dynamic of Season 4 and if relationships can be mended in the future, her regrets, and biggest lessons learned from watching herself on TV. Read our interview below!
Hi Kathy! Thanks so much for agreeing to do this interview! How have you been doing?
KW: “My pleasure, sorry it took me so long to get back to you! Things have been going great, I just launched my dessert line, Dolci della Dea Goddess Sweets with the debut of my cannoli kit on QVC.”
How did Bravo originally approach you to be on RHONJ?
KW: “I was contacted by a casting agent.”
What made you decide to join the cast? Did you have any reservations?
KW: “Yes, I had reservations, my biggest concern was for my children and how it would affect them. After my husband and I discussed it at legnth with them. We decided to go for it because it seemed like it’d be a lot of fun and new experience in our lives.”
Can you comment on any of the rumors that you won’t be returning for Season 5?
KW: “I’m sorry but I cannot comment, you’ll have to wait and see!”
Many viewers didn’t like how “dark” Season 4 was. How did you handle the negativity and constant drama while filming the show?
KW: “I for one, didn’t like how dark the season became either. It was never my intention to contribute to any of that darkness. I’m lucky to have a supportive husband that’s always joking around and two really great kids to keep me focused on my priorities and what is really important in life.”
Do you think these family relationships can ever be mended in the future?
KW: “I continue to be optimistic, so I’m hoping that things could work out and turn around in the future.”
Do you have any regrets about anything you’ve said or done on the show?
KW: “Yes there were some hurtful things that I’ve said and I’ve apologized for them. Of course in life there’s always things you regret. No one’s perfect, certainly not me. But all you could do is try to make amends and move on.”
What is the most difficult thing about filming a reality TV show?
KW: “The most difficult thing is making sure you don’t put off simple tasks off till tomorrow. You never catch up. Since we don’t really schedule much that’s happening there’s so many times you need to be ready without much notice. You never know what may come up next, so you need to be prepared.”
What do you think is the biggest misperception people have about you?
KW: “I am who I am, I can’t be consumed with other people’s misperceptions about me. I’m completely comfortable with who I am, and am happy to be surrounded by those who really know me. It’s a TV show, not my whole life.”
How has being on the show changed your life?
KW: “I’m a lot busier. However for any stay home mom that hasn’t worked outside of the home and you suddenly get a job things are bound to change.”
What is the biggest life lesson you’ve learned from being on the show?
KW: “For one, I don’t walk around with a mirror to watch my facial expressions and the way I speak. So when I watch the show back, I laugh or I cringe at some of my facial expressions. HaHa, I guess I’d have to say the biggest life lesson is that you need to be completely comfortable and secure with yourself, and with your feelings and actions. You’re going to be attacked from all angles by those who have only seen a snippet of the show, and have to feel comfortable enough with yourself to handle it.”
Were you a fan of The Real Housewives prior to joining the cast?
KW: “Yes, all of them!”
Who is your favorite Housewife from another city?
KW: “Sonja Morgan from New York. I really love her lust for life, and easy going nature.”
Are you currently working on any new projects?
KW: “Dolci della Dea dessert line, I’m working on my next desserts for the line, and I’m working on my new jewelry line. I also have a prepared cocktail on the market called Red Velvet Cosmo. It’s a vodka based cocktail that’s infused with the flavor of one of my favorite desserts , red velvet cake. You can find out more information on my website www.Kathywakile.com.”
Is there anything you’d like to say to your fans?
KW: “I would like to thank everyone for their continuous support and kind words they have shared with me and my family. It really means so much to us.”
