I recently had the opportunity to interview Real Housewives of Orange County Star Gretchen Rossi. She is the sweetest, and I was SO excited! She talks about what viewers can expect in Season 8, how the new Housewife, Lydia, is fitting into the group, her friendship with Tamra, what happened between her and Alexis, and if they have been able to mend their friendship since the reunion. Read what Gretchen said below!
Hi Gretchen, thank you so much for agreeing to do this interview! How are you doing?
GR: “I am doing great! Super busy with work, traveling for hosting and work opportunities and helping my favorite charities when I can!”
How did Bravo originally approach you to be on the show?
GR: “I was approached by a casting agent who called me because of Slade recommending me for the show.”
What made you decide to join the cast? Were you hesitant at all?
GR: “I really had no interest in doing the show but after talking to my late fiancé Jeff at the time, he is the one that convinced me to do it. Every day for him and I had been about his cancer and he saw the show as an opportunity to have fun and not make our lives so focused around his illness.”
I’m very excited for another season of RHOC! I know you are currently filming, how do you think this season will differ from past seasons?
GR: “I think every season brings new storylines and new chapters of each of our lives. For me personally you will see me struggling with some real life hard issues, for instance Slade’s son being very sick and how we are trying to stay strong and fight through that all the while considering starting a family of our own. It’s sincerely been a very difficult battle to navigate through.”
I know Bravo has added a new Housewife this season, in your opinion, how does she fit into the group?
GR: “She is very sweet and I think she is fitting in great so far!”
In your opinion, what caused the friction in your friendship with Alexis?
GR: “I think Costa Rica was what caused it. I think she couldn’t accept the fact that I was being honest with her about something that everyone was saying and feeling about her and I was trying to help her understand why they felt that way about her. Although the footage didn’t show all of it I spent most of that night defending her to those woman and telling them I knew her heart, but I guess she forgot about all those things and focused on the one thing I said that hurt her. I even apologized the next day on the beach to her, but she seemed to forget most of that when she got home and decided to go on a rampage about Heather, Tamra and I being bullies which was just plain ridiculous. I was the furthest thing from that to her, she knows I warned her on the plane about the intervention the woman were attempting to do (because I was being a good friend) and I spoke to her from a place of love and concern in Costa Rica. If she really believes it was anything different than that then she never really knew me to being with and we weren’t as good of friends as I thought.”
Have you been able to mend things with Alexis?
GR: “Unfortunately no.”
I was so glad when you and Tamra made up on Season 7, together you make me laugh! Are you and Tamra still close friends?
GR: “Yes we are, we have a blast together and sincerely enjoy each other’s company. Just like any friendships I’m sure we will have our ups and downs but we have learned how to communicate a lot better.”
How has being a part of the show changed your life?
GR: “In every way! Good and bad, we can’t go out anymore without someone knowing who we are and wanting a picture, and when I don’t have any make-up on that can be hard at times because they want to post the picture on Facebook or Twitter! However my businesses have grown substantially, and I have had so many amazing opportunities come my way as well due to the show and the amazing fan base!”
Do you have any regrets about anything you’ve done or said on the show
GR: “OMG! YES YES YES! However it is “reality” and in real life you mess up! So I have to just pick myself up and try to learn from my mistakes!”
What do you think one of the biggest misperceptions viewers have about you is?
GR: “That I was a Goldigger, however I finally feel like the viewers have seen the “real” me these past few years, and that I have always been a very hard working woman who doesn’t need a man to take care of her. I have always been self sufficient. I paid for my own house and my own cars, and my own stuff. I think everyone just assumed Jeff did that for me but it couldn’t be farther from the truth. I love being a strong woman entrepreneur, being my own boss and taking care of myself. I take a lot of pride in that.”
Is there any truth to the engagement rumors?
GR: “As of now, no, but I’m not making any promises about later :)”
Were you a fan of The Housewives Franchise prior to joining the cast?
GR: “I watched it here and there but not religiously.”
Who is your favorite Housewife from another city?
GR: “I have soooo many there is just no way I could pick only one!”
Are you working on any upcoming projects?
GR: “Yes! A lot! You know me I’m a mover and a shaker! However the most recent is my collaboration with Lisa Vogel who owns Luxe swimwear. We are doing a “Gretchen Christine” capsule collection for Luxe and I am excited to bring it to all the consumers that have been asking me to expand into swimwear. You will be able to find it at local swim spot retail stores and possibly at local large retailers as well.”
Is there anything you’d like to say to your fans?
GR: “OMG! So much! They are my daily inspiration for continuing to share my life on TV, they inspire me, keep me strong and help make all my dreams become reality! I sincerely love each and every one of my fans because I can feel how much they truly love and care for me, my happiness, and my well being and there is no greater feeling in the world!”
