Monique Samuels Opens Up About Her Miscarriage

At last year’s RHOP reunion, the ladies were ready to rehash all of the drama but Monique Samuels was secretly dealing with something much bigger.

Monique shared that she had her first miscarriage last year in this week’s episode. Monique revealed during a recent interview that she actually experienced the miscarriage two days before she filmed the RHOP Season 2 reunion.

“It definitely caught us off-guard,” Monique told Bravo. “I was thinking I would go there [to the reunion] and share some awesome news with all the ladies, and I didn’t because I didn’t want to talk about it at that time.”

Samuels explained that she didn’t have time to process the loss between trying to balance taking care of her son Christopher, 5, and daughter Milani, 2, moving the family into their new home in Potomac, paying bills, managing her and her husband’s properties, and having a social life.

“It was almost like I felt like I was doing something wrong. I felt like, was I not prepared? Was my body not prepared for this?” Monique said. “So it was nonstop, and I felt like that is probably part of what contributed to the miscarriage, just being so busy, not getting proper sleep, not taking care of myself properly, all of the things that I thought I did right, I realized, no, you can be better. You’re not as balanced as you thought you were.”

“It taught me not to take things for granted and to think that I’m so special that something like that can’t happen to me,” she said. “I just try to look at the positive in any situation and say obviously God knew what was best at that time. So now moving forward, I’ll make sure I’m more prepared so when the time comes again, we’ll be ready, and I’ll try not to be as nervous being that we’ve experienced that. I can only imagine if and when we get pregnant again, just the thought of it possibly happening again, just trying to shut that from my mind.”

Will Monique and Chris try to expand their family in the future? “We’re never not trying, but we’re trying. If it happens, it happens. Every now and then, we get a little undisciplined [laughs],” she said. “So if it happens, great, if it doesn’t, we’ll see what was meant to be.”
