Lydia McLaughlin Reveals She Doesn’t Care For Slade Smiley!

Lydia McLaughlin

Lydia McLaughlin will appear on Episode 3 of The Real Housewives of Orange County, Season 8, and we will get to know the fabulous and rich Christian business woman/mother! Lydia is actually a friend of Alexis Bellino. Lydia did an interview with U-T San Diego where she talked her decision to join the cast, who she didn’t like, and what we can expect from her this season!

Lydia lived in  San Diego for years, and already has a relationship with Lisa Vanderpump through her magazine, Beverly Hills Lifestyle. “Lisa writes a column for us, and we also did a photo shoot with Brandi Glanville. I guess Bravo heard about me through those connections, and one of the casting producers reached out about the O.C. show.”

Lydia also dishes that she used to be Alexis and Jim’s neighbor and their children attended the same school. “I used to live across the street from Alexis, and our kids go to the same school. Actually, my mom moved into her old house! I run in the same circles.”

Lydia is a devout Christian and a successful businesswoman who has worked hard. She shares that she had serious reservations about joining the cast, and told producers no several times. Lydia runs a magazine and has a jewelry line, she’s also a documentary filmmaker and fashion editor. She refers to juggling her professional life and motherhood as a “daily struggle.” Which is why she originally said no to joining the cast of RHOC.

“I was nervous, like any normal person would be! Have you seen the show? I love my life, love my family. I’m very protective of my marriage,” Lydia explains. “I’m honestly the complete antithesis of a Housewife. I’ve never thrown anyone in a pool, or thrown wine in someone’s face! I didn’t think I was the right fit. And I didn’t want to be famous. I’ve never had those aspirations. It seemed like a lot of risk, but not a lot of reward. I thought if I said no, I would always wonder — what if? I decided that I could be a positive role model on the show, and provide a different voice.”

Lydia is still friends with Alexis after filming the show, but one person she doesn’t consider a friend? Slade Smiley… “Oh, I have an opinion on Slade… we don’t really care for each other,” she reveals. “He is very opinionated, but he doesn’t like to be accountable for it. I’m a sweet, nice person, but I’m also very direct. So, we had some adult conversations.” I wonder if this means Lydia and Gretchen will not get along?

As for the drama? “I had heard things, but I didn’t go into the show wanting to like someone or not,” Lydia shares. “I didn’t know the drama. I was naive, so it made me more authentic. But it’s so different to watch the show at home for entertainment, and to be a part of the show. To be there at the table with all the yelling and the cursing. It’s a whole other level!”

  1. Did they really need to bring another Christian on the show? They probably only did so that Alexis would actually have someone on her side, arguing for her and not liking the people she doesn’t like.. 🙁

  2. she said she has her on opinion on the ladies and we can kinda see that in the previews im excited to see what she brings to the show

  3. Mktb, if you don’t like religion, that’s your business, but to judge someone you don’t know because of their religion means you’re the worst type of bigot there is.
Christians are not perfect people, and 99% of them do not judge others the way you are judging them.

  4. Also, there are a lot of Christian viewers of this show (don’t ask me why we’re drawn to the carnage), but we love and respect for Alexis and her husband for trying to take the high road when attacked and tried to calmly explain their perspective. Again, they are not perfect, and sometimes insert foot into mouth, but who hasn’t done that on this show. The difference is that much of what the Bellino’s have said has been twisted by others to become fodder for their hatred. Nothing would please me more then to see them win over others on the show with love and kindness.

  5. I love Lydia, feel disappointed she did not stay on as she was the breath of fresh air the show needed. She may have been small but she had magnetism and her beautiful eyes reflected her beautiful soul…come back your cast mates need the voice of reason, fairness and love. Good luck Lydia, you are your Mother’s daughter, you spread your own angel/fairy dust wherever you go and light up a room x

Alexis, I love the new, strong, happy you and your hair looks awesome, don’t change it!
