Lisa Rinna’s daughter, Amelia Hamlin, 17, was brave enough to open up about her battle with anorexia this season on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.
Rinna confessed that she blames herself for her daughter’s eating disorder. “You can’t help but blame yourself. You know, it’s like, ‘What did we do to f*ck her up?’ Maybe we did something. I don’t know. I just know that it’s really, really hard to watch Amelia be in pain.”
“I don’t want to see her suffer. You want to fix it,” Rinna added. “You want to make it go away. You want to erase it. You know, you just want to take your child out of pain. You don’t want your child to be in pain.”
Before the episode where Lisa admitted she blames herself, Amelia took to Instagram to let viewers know that “how my eating disorder affected myself and my family. There is a scene where I am EXTREMELY rude to my dad and the food that he wants me to eat.”
Of course Rinna’s confession brought some nasty comments from some of her social media followers.
“This makes me wonder if this is how her daughter started her eating disorder with seeing mom this weight and thinking this is normal?” the person wrote under a video of Rinna dancing.
And Rinna responded to the remark. “You are body shaming me. You are the problem,” Rinna wrote.
I believe that Amelia was very brave for bringing awareness to a serious issue. I hope everyone supports and encourages this young lady who has since graduated high school and is “recovered” from the disease. If I were Rinna, I couldn’t imagine my reaction to such a nasty comment.
