Kim Richards Opens Up About Rehab and Sobriety

Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Kim Richards has been through a lot in the past few months. After her sobriety was questioned during the last season of the show she was arrested in April for public intoxication and other charges, did an interview with Dr. Phil that lead to her walking off, and having constant concern of her status in rehab. Now that Kim has been over thirty days sober, she spoke with Entertainment Tonight about her sobriety and experience in treatment.

“I love sobriety. I’ve always loved sobriety, and relapsing was very hard for me. It was not easy. I have to say, don’t take this wrong, but I really wanted to go to treatment because I needed a break from what I was going through at home.”

Viewers saw during the show that Richards was going through a lot in her personal life, and she shared that with ET’s Nischelle Turner in the interview. “Monty, my ex husband, is very sick and my son wasn’t well. And I had to give away my dog, and I wasn’t talking to my sister Kyle.

Richards did in fact complete treatment for thirty days in a facility and is looking back on it as a positive experience. “I went in and I got to learn a whole lot about myself. I dug deep into my past, things that happened to me as a child, good and bad, teenage years, relationships with all my loves ones, where they need to be managed, where they’re very powerful. I worked on me.”

Turner then asked about Richards’ arrest and if it were a ‘a-ha’ moment for her, Kim said, “Actually, my arrest was my ‘a-ha I get to go away now and rest and take a break from all of this’. I don’t want anybody to take this wrong, but I truly needed a break from hospitals, family, and the pressure. I needed to go away.”

  1. Wow, you sure can change your life in 30 days… I mean… 30 days VS 25 years, yep that sure works.
    Only in Beverly Hills.

She is still full of herself and not admitting to anything. Self entitled piece of Beverly Hills throw up.

    1. You’re so nasty, take care of your life. What do you want her to admit? She’s an alcoholic, she got drunk and made a fool of herself? What do you want from her? Her kidneys? Her blood? Her head on a stick? Get a life seriously

      1. What’s nasty here dude… alcoholism can’t be an excuse for everything… for 20 years… right?! Just check this interview and see how she behaves and you will see why she is an entitled delusional c””t…. thanx for suggestions.

I will try and buy myself a life… who want’s to hang on some blogs and responding to comments of crazy people, right?

      2. Jake just ignore this idiot she is a self confessed troll that likes to wind people up! Don’t respond she will soon get fed up if she doesn’t get a reaction. With a bit of luck she will go to another blog!!! LMAO 😀

  2. Oh please I just read she has missed all her after care appointments and believe you me that is going to come back and bite her in the azz with the courts. This article here just does not resemble reality one bit.

  3. I don’t think Kim has been in touch with anything real for decades. She fools herself and thinks she continues to fool the public. I am glad her kids are grown and can make decisions for themselves instead of the way she showed she made them, always about what she needed from them, not what she could do for them. Selfish drunk bitch.

    1. She is not only in self destructive mode, but destructive also towards people closest to her. She would destroy Kyle if she could, she is obviously angry at a lot of things…

Being a child “star” and then reduced to not a lot… it sucks. Some take their life, some turn to drugs, some go the wine way… but that is not an excuse.

      1. You see she still won’t even admit she locked herself in that bathroom. She spins everything in her head and a lot of folks actually believe her! We know she has a thing for locking herself in bathrooms from the show when she is juiced, which is a lot. Poor thing can’t hide pill taking like most folks. Screws her up and bring out the true mean, vindictive, entitled bitch who drinks and drugs every problem in her life, then blames Kyle. She will die a drunk unfortunately.

  4. Kim has not hit her Rock bottom yet. She has to want to get better. If she wanted that then she would have stayed in rehab for more than 30 days. Yeh she was ready for a break to go to rehab??? So much of a break she mad an ass out of herself at her daughters wedding in Mexico and took off and refused to go back into rehab. She was NOT sober last season. She was on something. You could tell just by looking at her. She is a washed up has been that is hiding in her closet with a bottle and a bag of pills and always will be until she wants to recover.

  5. Her hair has gotten so big cuz it’s full of secrets.

I dont think how Eileen, Lisa R or Kyle handled Kims drinking last season was right. Made sense for Brandi to back her friend up, and Lisa V. didn’t talk about it at all which was good.

But Kims complete lack of ownership over the issue is very worrying, I really hope she’s not back at all and Kyle doesn’t use her as material to cry over next season.

  6. Life is stressful and it doesn’t get any easier as you age, if she can’t develop the appropriate coping mechanisms to deal with this stress she will never remain sober.

  7. I see Kim always on the same path of self destruction not unlike more than a few ex-child stars. Missing out on a lot of their childhood, forced to work most of it and making most or all of their wealth when their parents were in control of everything has a lot to do with it. Many do drugs, alcohol, and many lives end much too early. Kim is no longer young, and her children are mostly grown now, and if she hasn’t straightened up by now, it is difficult to see it now. She makes a lot of excuses, but she hasn’t seemed to really want sobriety enough to make it happen for real.
She and Kyle are both in a love-hate relationship with each other, having problems that stem from their childhood. They will always have issues. I just don’t want to watch them.

  8. Kim is NOT sober in any way. No way no how no. She will be working on her sobriety for the rest of her life. Until Kim can hand over her treatment to the professionals and do exactly what they say she is not going to ever be sober. SHe continually wants to do it on her own and she CANT it is not possible. She is a b*ll shi#*er she has gotten to the point that she believes her own lies. Truly sober people are the one’s that realize they can’t do it on their own. She thinks with her status (which I don;t know exactly what that is) that she is going to be different than any other drunk. I don’t need anyone I can do it on my own.. Moving in with Kathy is another step towards being dependent on others to take care of her, watch her or I call it babysitting. Kim is a MESS…. give it a few months, she will be back on because she ran into a house while drunk driving. Give it up Kim what is this 12… 13…. 14th time you have tried it your way. This is ridiculous.

  9. To all the haters here, it is obvious you all haters know her personally, may I guess, you all are members, from the TV program. Kim has been exploited, by her mother, by Hollywood, by the press, by the TV show producers, by everybody, now that she has fallen, now that she’s sick, there is no one there to support her.?! Hollywood life, and Hollywood family, they are all heartless- Kim keep strong, be happy, change your lifestyle. Get out of Hollywood become one with you – Life is short, Hollywood a shallow, artificial, materialistic. Hollywood is hell on earth.

    1. She outs herself out there then she needs to take the criticism. She makes money off of putting her life on TV. Kim got very evil this season to people that were trying to help her.. She makes money on putting her life on display . Oh poor poor Kim days are over… She might to try to give up tv for good. Paid interviews included

    2. We aren’t haters, just realists. No one wants Kim to fail. I can only speak for myself but she needs to own her problems before she can get better. I think Kim had a horrendous childhood but that doesn’t excuse her behaviour!!

    3. I dont think it’s fair to call people haters.

I think Kim was exploited in the last season by the other housewives, Lisa R. constantly trying to call her out last season, or Kyle trying to confront her in a bathroom AGAIN was terrible.
Kim seemed really together last season, with the exception of Game Night, she was “mean” in Amsterdam, but not sloppy like she was at Game Night, but she was also provoked.

But her total denial she has a problem is too glaringly obvious, like she didn’t seem to think her drinking or drugs were a problem at that Dr.Phil interview, and in the interview above she calls her getting arrested as a moment she realized she needed a rest – not confront her problem with alcohol, but a rest. It sounds like she still doesn’t think what she was doing as wrong.

She doesn’t even seem like Kim in this interview, she looks dead behind the eyes.

    4. She put herself in front of Hollywood. When she grew up (physically) she had the choice to stay away from Hollywood like other child actors. She puts herself in front of the reality camera and invites comment. She could hide if she wanted to. The press would stop following her and if SHE wanted to she could focus on a different life. Notice SHE agreed to an interview just when the Kim stories were dying down. The hundreds of thousands of dollars she has made just isn’t enough for her. Have to have 80 pairs of shoes and Gucci handbags for God sakes. Can’t live like a normal person because she hasn’t even learned how to do Hollywood right yet. She doesn’t WANT to live any other way so I will continue to say how totally mean and vindictive I think she is. Too bad her family can’t turn off their computer and forget.

  10. I admit that I am addicted to Bravo and I am powerless over my addiction.
That’s how it works, Kim Richards.

  11. It says a lot that she thinks an “aha moment” is about finding a place to run away from her problems instead of what it is: A moment where you realize what you’ve been missing and what you need to do to fix things.

  12. She is in denial. She will never get sober, unless that is what she truly wants. No one can make her do it; she has to want to do it! I don’t see that happening anytime soon.
