Real Housewives of New Jersey star Teresa Giudice and her husband, Joe, have been charged with 39 counts of financial fraud by the federal government, and are each facing jail time. Some of the charges include;Â conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud, bank fraud, lying on loan applications and bankruptcy fraud. Joe is also being charged with failure to file tax returns for 2004 through 2008. A source close to the situation is telling us EXCLUSIVELY what this could mean for Teresa, Joe and their family.
“Teresa and Joe will appear in court on Tuesday,” the source tells us. “They will hear the indictments and charges and the judge may decide to go ahead and process (arrest) them or the judge could wait until a later time to take them into custody.”
“It’s serious,” the source continues. “The US Attorney in New Jersey has a very high conviction rate for tax evasion. Normally they will charge the husband and offer him a plea to avoid charging the wife.”
“Because both Joe and Teresa have been charged, it implies they are confident they can convict Joe, unless they have already offered him a plea. It seems he has rejected the plea because they both have been charged,” the source says.
Teresa’s attorney has released a statement saying she will plead “not guilty,” and Teresa released a statement via Facebook and Twitter, saying, â€Today is a most difficult day for our family. I support Joe and, as a wonderful husband and father, I know he wants only the best for our lovely daughters and me. I am committed to my family and intend to maintain our lives in the best way possible, which includes continuing my career. As a result, I am hopeful that we will resolve this matter with the Government as quickly as possible.â€
