Andy Cohen and Melissa Gorga Sued for $30 Million

Andy Cohen and Melissa Gorga are defendants in a $30 million defamation lawsuit brought on by Melissa’s former business partner, Jackie Beard Robinson.

Robinson is claiming that the two conspired to make her look like a thief on The Real Housewives of New Jersey. Beard Robsinson sued NBC Universal, Cohen and Gorga for defamation and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

Court docs, obtained by The Blast, Jackie owned a clothing store in Florida and met Gorga after the Bravo star came into the store to shop. The two eventually went into business together, and opened a clothing store in New Jersey, called Envy by Melissa Gorga.

Their partnership agreement went south in late 2016 after Robinson claimed Gorga “misappropriated” over $37,000 from the company. The partnership ultimately ended, and Robinson soon after went to the store to collect her belongings.

When the show aired, the business was a plot line, and Gorga made it appear that Robinson actually “snuck into Envy in the middle of the night and stole clothing.”

Robinson claims in the court docs that she showed up during the daylight and the items she took out of the store were her own property.

The theft claims were then repeated during an episode of Watch What Happens Live. Cohen even said, “Wow, so, that lady wound up kinda ripping you off?” Gorga replied, “Yes.”

Jackie claims that the way she was depicted in the show made her look like a felon and has negatively impacted her business and personal life.

She wants $30 million in damages.

My name is Nicki. I am 32 years-old and married to my best friend. I was previously in business for over 12 years, but I’ve always had a great passion for web and graphic design. Another one of my passions, of course, is to escape into the world of TV, which is where this journey began. My goal in starting AllThingsRH.com was to give fans, like myself, a place to catch up on all the latest news and gossip about The Real Housewives. I wanted to create a place where viewers could interact with each other, share their opinions, and get straight-forward and unbiased information about what’s going on. I am proud of the diversity this site has to offer.

    Let me get this straight.
The Article is a bit ambigious.
Is, Robinson suing all three, NBC/Universal for 30 million, Cohen for 30 Million and Melissa for 30 million, each?
In which case, she would end up maybe with 90 million?
I sincerely, doubt that Melissa has 30 million dollars.
However, I remember saying that Her Partner ripped her off, etc. I also remember WWHL when Andy asked Melissa.
A Rather Expensive Lesson.I am sure that NBC/Universal are ” Really Happy to Shell out 30 Million in, damages.
Andy, must be Loving Melissa Right now, not!
I smell Trouble in Paradise between Joe Gorda and Melissa.
You Screwed Yourself and your Family, big time. So wonder she is crawling up, Margaret’s Arsehole..

Yes all three and I think it’s smart. Ultimately, Andy is going to skate by but NBC will settle and Melissa will either settle or go to court. She will get some $$ out of it though and she deserves to if what she claims is true. She took HER property so to use the show to call her a thief is defamation and damaging. I think she’s just firing a warning shot at Andy so he will keep her name out of his mouth on his show.

I agree. I believe Robinson over Melissa. It is pretty obvious that she is telling the Truth, otherwise why would she risk more bad publicity? You don’t go up against A Major Player like NBC/ Universal unless you have proof.

Lay down with Andy Cohen, wake up with a lawsuit. Or however the saying goes….

I think before we jump to conclusions, we should let this play out in court. Just because this woman says these things, doesn’t make them true. In a lot of cases, big corporations settle just to avoid lengthy, more expensive litigation. Does Jackie have the funds for a protracted legal battle with NBC? I doubt it. They have teams of lawyers to handle things like this. Does she really want to go down that road? Or has she launched this suit for her own publicity and will quietly slink away once she’s got her name in the tabloids a few times?

Melissa did say that Robinson ripped her off. It was televised.
NBC/ Universal have probably already settled.
I thought 90 million? Is she dreaming?
I think she filed the suits to Clear her Name & her Business’s Reputation.

I heard what Melissa said. What I don’t know is what really happened. To me, anyone who is in cahoots with KimD is a douchebag and I don’t believe much of what they say. Right now, we have two different stories. I don’t automatically believe this woman. Pretty stupid of Melissa to say that on t.v. if it would open her up to a lawsuit. Is she that stupid? I have no idea.

        • Minx

          Let me think…LOL!
          How stupid can Melissa be?
          Melissa is Friends with Danielle.
          I don’t know.
It was my, own observation and just felt Melissa’s Story was a bit sketchy.

          • UnrealHousewife57

Well, it won’t be the first and certainly not the last time there are legal issues in NJ. Or with other HWs to be honest. They all seem to be targets for some reason.

            • Minx

Ikr? I think many of the Women on some Franchises are in a rush to establish a brand and don’t have proper education or business sense to act accordingly,

    • Oh Snarky Me

Jackie will hire a lawyer on contingency. No upfront money

  • Rain

I am more interested in the possible flood gates of lawsuits that could explode in Andy’s face !! Andy better buckle up

  • Tammy

I would say an open and shut case if Melissa was exaggerating, or plainly lying.. she said it on TV.
Not a smart move on her part regardless.

  • cat62

They get lawsuits all the time…never hear of the outcomes. Its a publicity stunt.

  • UnrealHousewife57

Wait until Jackie gets to the depositions. So, she’s saying that her business has suffered SINCE THE SHOW AIRED. So, in a matter of weeks?

I predict this is the last we’ll hear of this issue.

  • timdun

I wish they had been filming when Melissa found out she was being sued. I wonder how Joe reacted?

Bravo showed three old episodes of RHONJ a few days ago that were filmed during Christmas 2010. It was fun watching the old shows and one thing I noticed was Melissa had her old nose. It’s so funny that she denies have a nose job when looking at her in 2010 it’s so obvious.
