Andy Cohen Defends Airing The Giudice Legal Drama On RHONJ

Teresa and Joe Giudice’s legal battles were a spectacle on the premiere of The Real Housewives of New Jersey Sunday night. And during Tuesday night’s episode of Watch What Happens Live, host Andy Cohen and guests Anderson Cooper and Kelly Ripa discussed the issue.

A caller asked the trio what they thought of the possibility that Giudice was airing her legal woes “to seek sympathy” and in turn hoping for a lighter jail sentence.

“When I look at her little girl, of course, you cannot help but have your heart ripped out of your chest,” Kelly Ripa said. “Having said that, I think we have a legal process for a reason. I don’t think that judges are persuaded by what’s happening on television… I don’t think there’s a judge sitting over this trial that’s going to say, ‘Oh last night on the Real Housewives of New Jersey.’ I really don’t think that will impact it.”

“I just look at the kids, and I feel for the kids, because I have kids, so that’s my answer,” Kelly shared.

Cohen defended airing the legal drama because viewers have been watching the Giudice’s journey for so many years.

“We’re now still following them and we’re seeing what life is like after you plead [guilty] it’s a continuation of seeing what’s going on in the lives of [these people],” he said.

“It’s sort of in the eye of the beholder,” Anderson Cooper chimed in. “It’s up to viewers to interpret how they see things. Two people can see a scene and see it in completely different ways.”

My name is Nicki. I am 32 years-old and married to my best friend. I was previously in business for over 12 years, but I’ve always had a great passion for web and graphic design. Another one of my passions, of course, is to escape into the world of TV, which is where this journey began. My goal in starting AllThingsRH.com was to give fans, like myself, a place to catch up on all the latest news and gossip about The Real Housewives. I wanted to create a place where viewers could interact with each other, share their opinions, and get straight-forward and unbiased information about what’s going on. I am proud of the diversity this site has to offer.
